Letter From the Founders: A Modern Law Firm for a New Era
We believe great legal counsel should be as innovative and forward-thinking as the clients we serve. After years in BigLaw, we saw an opportunity to build something new: a firm of lawyers with deep expertise powered by cutting-edge technology embedded into every aspect of the practice. Our goal is to deliver sophisticated legal advice in a way that is efficient, pragmatic, and accessible, so we can serve as a trusted partner for startups and investors alike.
We began our careers at Cravath, drawn to the rigor of high-stakes transactions and the discipline of world-class lawyering. Those years taught us how to navigate complex deals and think strategically. But we wanted to work more closely with the people building the next generation of companies. That led us to Cooley, where we had the privilege of advising founders, startups, and venture funds from formation through growth and beyond.
Elego is the natural next step. Our mission is to fully leverage technology to deliver legal advice that is both sophisticated and cost-effective. This is an unparalleled time for legal innovation, and we’re excited by the many ways these advances will benefit our clients, including through greater efficiency, transparency, and collaboration. By embracing the tools now available, we are able to devote more time to strategic guidance and hands-on partnership. As a small, tech-enabled boutique, we’re able to offer quick, individualized service without sacrificing depth or quality. And we’re moving beyond the billable hour toward transparent, fixed-fee pricing, so we can create clarity, alignment, and lasting relationships with the innovators shaping what’s next.
The name Elego blends our last names and nods to the Latin ēligō, meaning “to choose.” Every company, every fund, every founder has choices about who they work with, how they grow, and where they place their trust. We built Elego to be the choice that feels both easy and right: a modern law firm for a new era.
