The Name Elego

Elego /ˈɛl.ə.goʊ/ (EL-uh-go) is more than a name. With a nod to the Latin ēligō, meaning “to choose,” we built Elego to be the easy choice for builders and innovators. A blend of the founders’ surnames, it embodies elegance, progress, and purpose: the principles that guide how we practice law.

The Process

We work with each client to define the scope of our engagement and confirm a fee arrangement, often fixed or capped, before work begins. For standard matters, we are happy to provide illustrative fee ranges and explain the variables that affect them. For more complex transactions, such as M&A, we develop tailored pricing based on deal-specific parameters. In all cases, our goal is clarity, alignment, and trust from the start.

Our Story

Elego was founded by Zoë Egelman and Carly Goeman, long-time colleagues who began their legal careers at Cravath, Swaine & Moore and went on to advise start-ups and investors at Cooley. After years representing high-growth companies and venture funds, we set out to build a new model to deliver the caliber of elite firms with the efficiency and adaptability of a tech-enabled boutique.
